Soon after graduating from nursing school in December 1994 and getting married, my wife and I had the opportunity to open two smoothie stores in our area. We sold a few trendy supplements for that era, but it was not until a chance encounter with a whole food-based green grass juice powder that allowed us to see the power of nutrition to impact health. See our article-“How breast milk led to a cancer protocol.” With a gift of empowering and educating our customers, we sold quite a bit of this green juice powder. The company rewarded our efforts by sending a world-renowned holistic Oncologist to our town to give a weekend of lectures as a marketing opportunity for our store. My father attended the lectures and was fascinated with the power of nutrition and herbs to overcome serious health challenges and maintain true health.
Our family grew, and I could no longer balance running the stores and working full-time at the hospital. We gave up the smoothie stores; it was not my time yet. On the other hand, my dad retired from being a machinist at age 55 and announced that he would open a health food store, Whole Health Market.
He went to college, took anatomy and physiology courses, and became an apprentice to a Naturopathic doctor. He built a thriving business and counseled thousands of clients at the age most of his peers were retiring. We, as a family, were able to work side by side for over twenty years, always challenging each other to explore deeper in understanding the body’s incredible ability to heal. We had the opportunity to vet what supplements and dietary recommendations worked with follow-up visits with our clients. We cherish the opportunity to empower our clients to understand the root cause of their health challenges and offer proven strategies to support a return to health.
